Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. She was born and was raised in Barcelona. Her eclectic musical style has earned her the status of "atypical pop star". She was fascinated by Spanish folk music when she was 13 years old. She was a musicologist at Catalonia College of Music and also performed at weddings. Reimagining flamenco through mixing it with hip hop and pop music, the album produced the singles "Malamente" as well as "Pienso en Your Mira", which caught the interest of the Spanish general public, and were released to universal critical acclaim. El Mal Querer, who was honored with the Latin Grammy Award as Album of the Year, and was listed in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time has paved the way for her rise into the world music scene. [12][13] Rosalia has explored the urbano genre with her 2019 releases "Con Altura" and "Yo Ti x Tu x Mi", achieving global success. The third studio album she released, Motomami (2022) brought reggaeton a new experimental sound, different from the traditional flamenco style. It featured two singles "La Fama"" and "Saoko", the album was a big success across the globe and was named the top-rated album of the year by Metacritic. Through her career, Rosalia has accumulated ten number-one singles in her home country, which is a record for an artist from the country. The singer has also received two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including two Album of the Year wins), four MTV Video Music Awards, an MTV Europe Music Award, three UK Music Video Awards and two Premio Ruido awards, among others. In the year 2019, Billboard awarded her the Rising Star Award for "changing the music of the present day music with her fresh flamenco-influenced pop",[18] and became the first Spanish-singing act in history to be recognized as the the Best New Artist award at the Grammys
Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. Her family has no artistic heritage She is the eldest daughter of Pilar Tobella, a businesswoman who manages a small family business which specializes in metalworks. Jose Manuel Vila was her father. He was born in Cudillero (Asturias). They divorced in the year 2019. The older sister of Rosalia, Pilar Vila is born in 1989, is her stylist. Rosalia discovered her love for the performing arts at an early age, and particularly after discovering the discography of Camaron de la Isla. She began her musical studies in Taller de Musics. She was enrolled in a six-year course in the academy. She began at the Raval school, and then transferred to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. Additionally, she was a solo singer, singing at weddings and musical bars. For this she received "a barely more than 80 euros" or in exchange for dinner. At that time, Rosalia met many underground Spanish artists that would later succeed such as La Zowi, Yung Beef, Kaydy Cain, Hinds and Maria Escarmiento.
