Rauw Alejandro

In the year 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it became the most-streamed song during the course of 6 months. The song is a blend of pop music and reggaeton has not just brought attention to reggaeton but it also brought attention towards Latin music in general. In 2015 there were two songs that were predominantly Spanish-language on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity in 2017 however 19 mostly Spanish tracks made it into the Top 100 In 2020, there were 41 of them. After Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in 2017, many popular artists started to work together with reggaeton singers. Drake and Bad Bunny collaborated to record MIA (2018), while Madonna and Maluma worked together on Medellin in the year 2019. Reggaeton's most prominent performers were unhappy about the trend toward mainstream music in the year 2020. However, a brand new group, Rauw alejandro, was looking to change things up. His music often contained elements from electronic dance and other genres.
