Lee Roy Selmon's story combines football scholarship for his family and service to his community. First, his relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. The family raised nine kids in a Eufala farm. Two football. He is among three brothers who participated in the football team of Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy was named the best offensive lineman in the country by Outland as well as Lombardi Awards. In his time as the starting quarterback for Oklahoma The Sooners recorded a 32-1-1 record and won two national championships. A third scholarship saw him named a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon received a degree in education. Lee Roy's fourth service included ten hours per week in volunteer work during college. Then he settled in Tampa following college. He was a member of the Buccaneers for a period of nine years, and was three-times all-pro. His business career began. In 1988, while working as an account representative at First Florida Bank of Tampa He was a member of the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. This is why Lee Roy was honored when the Junior Chamber of Commerce designated him as one of the most prominent young men across the nation. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch taller and weighing 256 pounds in college as an athlete, was captain of his team during the season of 1975. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993, as assistant director of sports. In 1988, he was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame. The same year, he also was a part of his way into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 1989 the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave the Distinguished American Award, to Mr. Lucious Selmon and his wife. The presentation was made by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
